Disney’s Hollywood Studios are bringing back their Carbon-Freeze Me experience to their Star Wars Weekends during May and June this year. The Star Wars franchise is all about the merchandizing, and now that Disney have taken over they have added a personalized touch for the film’s fans that can only be achieved with 3D printing.
Located in Darth’s Mall visitors will be able to get a Stormtrooper figurine of themselves or be cast in carbonite, just like Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Well not quite, but you can get a 3D printed model of yourself cast in a “carbonite block” that’s 8 inches long that sent to you within 7-8 weeks.
At the Carbon-Freezing Chamber a high resolution 3D scanner will probe your face for 10 minutes and after some processing the image is sent to a 3D printer to create the figurine.
Visitors will also receive a Carbon-Freeze Me light-up band or a collector button depending of which gift they choose.
The personalized carbonite figurine costs $99.95 + taxes and shipping and the experience is only available during Star Wars Weekends 2013. (May 17 – 19, May 24 – 26, May 31 – June 2, and June 7 – 9).
