Autodesk 123D Creature 3D Printing App

Autodesk's new iPad app lets you create your own 3D printed monster

Autodesk has just launched a new iPad app that lets you create your own monster and 3D print it. For those who are new to 3D printing, 3D models than be difficult to create from scratch and the Autodesk 123D Creature App offers a fun way to start printing your own designs.

After creating your 3D character on your iPad the app lets you export the model to a 3D file format that will work with your 3D printer. If you don’t have a 3D printer of your own then you have the option to order a 3D print of your character right from the iPad app.

Build Creature Skeleton

Build your 3D creature's skeleton then send to 3D printer

You start by creating your monster’s skeleton by adding joints and limbs to build a “digital clay” model. Add several arms and legs, and scale them to give the creature its shape. Once you’re happy with it you can add surface textures and colors using the app’s paint tools.

Get the Autodesk 123D Creature App from the iTunes App Store for $1.99 for a limited time, before the price jumps up to $7.99.

Here’s a video of a monster created with the 123D Creature App being printed on a Replicator MakerBot 3D printer.
